Christmas & New Year in Walworth!
Christmas & New Year in Walworth!
Well, happy new year! We are now celebrating 2011 years since the birth of Christ. I have really enjoyed my first Christmas as Rector of St Peter’s, Walworth and Chair of Governors at St Peter’s School and Nursery. The School Christmas Nativity and Carol Services in St Peter’s Church were just brilliant! They told the Christmas story in an amazing way, as well as really celebrating our children’s great talent, imagination and hard work! Congratulations and thanks to children and staff who put so much into those fantastic events!
And of course, it snowed! There is something beautiful about the snow which makes us all stop and pause for a moment and admire the beauty of God’s creation. And then after a little while, we get fed up with the slush! But it certainly gave everything a very Christmassy feel. We had a wonderful Christmas in Church, where we gathered around the manger to adore the Babe of Bethlehem, that little tiny baby who is the Son of God, reaching out to us with open arms, passionate to love us and to receive our love.
It was really nice to start to get to know everybody in School last term, and I’m really looking forward to the new term ahead at St Peter’s. A new year is a chance for us all to get ready to achieve great things. At Christmas we traditionally give and receive gifts – now it’s time to use our own gifts, the gifts God has given us, to go from strength to strength and aim high in 2011!
With all joy and every blessing for the new year,
Father Andrew
Rector of the Parish of Walworth, St Peter and Chair of Governors
