Book Week 2012
Voices in the park By Anthony Browne
This year we decided to base our Book Week 2012 around Voices in the Park by Anthony Browne. Anthony is a well loved children’s author who many of our children are already familiar with. Voices in the Park is a great text because it can be related to from Nursery through to Year 6 level as everyone has experience of being at the park and going on the slides.
Differentiation was possible due to the rich illustrations and various facets and characters in the story. EYFS and KS1 could share experiences of pets and dogs as well as visits to the park while KS2 could look closely at the characters of the parents and really delve into relationships with peers and adults, making links to the PSHCE curriculum. This book allowed for many drama opportunities as well as speaking and listening tasks and additionally the illustrations allow for deeper looking, inference and higher order thinking skills.
Across the school a variety of work was planned and produced. Please come into school to look at our displays in the classroom and in the KS1 area.
It was a fantastic week – many thanks to all the staff and children for their hard work and enthusiasm!
